Hi,
I am Mahi Arun
Painting to me is a magical experience as one can so easily communicate complex emotions using just colors.
After years of painting, starting with crayons and progressing through water colors, oils and now acrylics, I have come to realize how art helps translating the sentiments surrounding me and within me to an outer reality. Though I put away my brushes briefly to pursue a career as a lawyer, I later recognized that art has no boundaries and that I can use the abundance of subjects I come across in other areas of my life as an inspiration. As a result, I seldom paint for art’s sake. My works usually convey an underlying idea and carry a positive message. I want each piece to speak to the viewer, invite them to relive an emotion and be enveloped with a déjà-vu feeling.

I love to paint in bold, bright colors, each colour a response to everything happening around me. Vivid colors of orange, reds, gold and green frequently find their way into my paintings for the positive energy they exude. Living in Singapore and travelling around the region brought a profound east-asian influence to the characters and theme of my paintings. Now exploring the contemporary art scene in Europe, I am recognising a steady transformation in my choice of subjects while still keeping with my style.

Being a self taught artist, I have honed my skills and refined my techniques through courses at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. I am constantly learning and discovering new techniques, textures, mediums and finding ways to introduce them into my works. The paintings seen here are few of the works I have completed over the years and many of these are part of private and corporate collections in UK, Ireland, India and Singapore.
